EUGENE, Ore. – One night after setting a school record with their fifth conference victory, the Northwest Christian University men's soccer team took it one step further, guaranteeing their first ever winning record in conference play with a 2-0 victory over Multnomah University.
Â
NCU improved to 6-6-2 on the season including a 6-3-2 record in conference play. The Beacons move into fifth place in the Cascade Conference and need just a tie in their final two games to clinch their first ever trip to the CCC post-season tournament.
Â
Also continuing to make history is sophomore keeper
Yayo Olvera who produced his seventh shutout of the season, nearly doubling his own single-season mark from his freshman campaign. Olvera leads the CCC with a 0.69 Goals Against Average.
Â
The game-winner for NCU came in the 31st minute when
Blake Doran scooped up a ricochet off a shot from
Victor Irechukwu and fired home the score into an empty net. It wasn't until the 80th minute that they would put up the insurance goal when senior Zephaniah Hollins added the punctuation mark to his final regular-season home game with a lofted 25-yard shot that sailed into the upper left corner of the net.
Â
NCU finished the night with a 17-5 advantage in shots, holding Multnomah (2-14, 0-12) to just one shot-on-goal.
Â
The Beacons will close out the regular season on the road next weekend, traveling to face Eastern Oregon on Friday and Warner Pacific on Saturday.Â
