Raiders Sweep Double-Header

ASHLAND, Ore. – The Southern Oregon University Raiders showed why they are ranked No. 18 in the NAIA, sweeping a double-header from the Beacons on Friday with a pair of run-rule wins, 11-1 and 12-1.

In game one, SOU scored 11 runs on 15 hits, using 13 singles and a pair of doubles. A ten-run second-inning proved to be too much damage for the Beacons to overcome, but the team did get one run back in the third on a sacrifice fly by Parker Fritter (pictured), scoring Kandace Furlong.

Katie Walker (3-9) took the loss, allowing four earned runs as she worked into the second inning. Madi Jones allowed one earned run in 2.1 innings of relief.

The Raiders spread out the hitting a little more in the second game but scored at least two runs in all four innings that they hit. They also used their power bats to more effect as six of their 14 connections were for extra bases including three home runs.

The Beacons once again scored a single run in game two and once again Fritter picked up the RBI as she hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, giving her 11 on the season.

Janieve Boyles (3-10) allowed nine earned runs over three innings to take the loss. Senior Sarah Lawhorn saw her first action in the circle this season and allowed just one single and no runs in an inning of work.

NCU returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Klamath Falls to face off against No. 23 Oregon Tech.
