REDDING, Calif. – A two-game winning streak came to a halt on Sunday as the Beacons traveled to face CalPac Conference juggernaut Simpson University in a double-header. The Red Hawks swept the day, 5-4 and 8-0.
Â
The Beacons held their own in the opening game scoring in each of the first two innings and coming within one run in the seventh on
Ashlee Cole's CCC-leading fifth home run of the season.
Parker Fritter (pictured) was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a double and
Jessica Garner hit 2-for-4.
Â
Janieve Boyles (1-3) took the loss for the Beacons, despite allowing just two earned runs while striking out three.
Â
Game two was a slightly different story as Simpson starter Kacey Pokorny pitched a no-hitter as the Red Hawks won in five innings. Pokorny did walk for batters as Garner, Cole,
Taylor Medley, and
Katie Walker each got on base and not a single NCU batter struck out in the game.
Â
Walker (1-4) allowed three earned runs in four innings, striking out two.
Â
The Beacons will be back on the field this weekend, traveling to Richland, Washington to play in the CCC Crossover Tournament, hosted by Eastern Oregon University.Â
