EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team shot 11-for-22 from three-point range on Tuesday night and shot over 50% from inside the arch as well, taking care of Corban University, 78-71.
Â
Head Coach
Heath Alexander said, "I was really pleased with our team tonight. We did a great job of carrying over the work we did in practice to the game tonight. We moved the ball well and shot the ball well."
Â
The Beacons rebounded after a slow start that saw Corban hit 64% of their shots in the first quarter, taking a 24-16 lead. NCU responded in the second quarter by hitting 8-for-12 from the field to even the game at 40-40 at intermission.
Â
NCU started to pull away after the break, due in large part to five third-quarter three-pointers from
Jeni Hoffert. She would add another distance bucket in the fourth quarter to give her six.
Â
The Warriors (6-7, 0-5 CCC) were led by Maddey Pflaumer who scored a game-high 25 points, shooting 10-for-18 from the field. Sadie Pilgeram added 17 points on the back of three treys and Maci Benedict scored 12 points and four assists.
Â
The Beacons (6-6, 3-2 CCC) were led by the 21 points performance of
Monique Thompson who added seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Hoffert finished with 18 points, shooting 6-for-10 from range.
Katerina Brejchova (pictured) had another stat-sheet filling night with 10 rebounds, nine points, five assists and five steals.
Â
"Jeni did a great job for us tonight hitting some big shots," said Alexander. "This team battled back and played some of our best basketball of the year down the stretch against a good Corban team. Kat B gave us a little bit of everything,
Kenzie Weston was a spark off the bench and Monique really competed on D."
Â
Northwest Christian will return to action in ten days, closing out the calendar year in Washington as they take on Walla Walla University at 12:00 p.m.
