LAS VEGAS – Junior
Niki Duncan had her second straight 20-point night for the Beacons, but NCU wasn't able to come away with the victory against Carroll College, falling 81-64 in the final game of the Frontier Conference Shootout.
Â
The Fighting Saints, ranked No. 25 in the preseason NAIA Division I Coaches Poll, shot 55% from the field and out-rebounded the Beacons 37-21 as they remained undefeated on the season (6-0).
Â
NCU (3-1) dropped their third match of the weekend, but Head Coach
Heath Alexander said it was an important tournament for the Beacons nonetheless. He said, "It was a tough weekend as far as wins and losses go, but we played really well in spots. We have some things to build on and clean up but we competed really well tonight. This is the type of competition that we wanted to see during this tournament and we got better each night."
Â
Duncan finished with 24 points in the loss, shooting 7-for-14 from the field including a 4-for-8 night from behind the arc.
Monique Thompson added 14 points and led the team with six assists.
Hannah Eddens came off the bench to score eight points.
Â
Carroll had four players in double-figures, led by Bailey Pasta who scored 22 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Hannah Dean added 15 points, eight assists and four steals.
Â
The Beacons will be back in action on Tuesday, coming home for the first time this season as they play host to Willamette University (2-0) at 7:00 p.m.
