EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's soccer team allowed just one shot-on-goal on Saturday night, but it was the only shot Eastern Oregon would need in a 1-0 victory at Mike Kelly Field.
Â
In the 10th minute of the game, a free-kick from Jorge Chavez found Elvis Pavon who traveled towards the left corner of the box with the ball. From 20-yards out, Pavon sent a missle into the right corner over the net, past the outstretched dive of NCU keeper
Yayo Olvera.
Â
The final 80 minutes belonged to the Beacons, eventually outshooting the Mounties 13-6, tripling the shots-on-goal count with two on frame from
Sanad Elghanai and one from
Victor Irechukwu (pictured). Unfortunately for the home team, none of those efforts were able to find the back of the net.
Â
NCU's closest opportunity came with Irechukwu's attempt as his header off a corner kick in the 48th minute was blocked by the head of a defenseman just inches away from finding the net.
Â
The Beacons will close out the regular season at home next weekend, beginning with a clash with Evergreen on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. Then on Saturday the team will host Northwest University at 5 p.m. NCU currently sits in tenth place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, which will send the top eight teams to the Conference tournament. NCU has 14 points and is still very much alive in their quest to reach the post-season for the first time.Â
