WALLA WALLA, Wash. – You can officially call it the best season in NCU men's soccer history. The Beacons secured their record eighth win of the season on Saturday night with a 2-0 defeat of Walla Walla University.
Â
NCU (8-4-2, 4-3-2 CCC) completed their third win in a row, tying a school record. They also tied records for conference wins (4) and single-season shutouts (4), and broke the single-season record for goals scored with 26. Â
Â
The Wolves (0-10, 0-10 CCC), perhaps inspired by their pre-game senior night festivities, played their best match of the season but a pair of goals for NCU in the first 21 minutes were enough for the Beacon victory.
Â
Senior
Adrian Palacios (pictured) got the team off on the right foot in the ninth minute as he scored his first goal of the season with a penalty kick. That goal would hold as the game-winner.
Â
Twelve minutes later
Tony Alcala added an insurance score with his third goal of the season, intercepting the ball and beating the keeper one-on-one.
Â
The final shot tally had NCU leading 21-6 including a 6-3 edge in shots-on-goal. Freshman Keeper
Yayo Olvera recorded his fourth shutout of the year, making three saves.
Â
The Beacons, who have guaranteed themselves at least a .500 record at the end of the regular season for the first time in school history, will come home for their final four regular-season matches starting with Warner Pacific on Friday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
