Women Roll to Victory

EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team rolled to victory on Saturday night, taking care of business against winless Walla Walla University, 86-41. The Beacons shot 50% from the field and put together another dominant defensive effort for their 15th win of the season, the most by an NCU team since joining the NAIA and the Cascade Collegiate Conference in 2007.

NCU (15-8, 10-4 CCC) remain alone in fourth place in the CCC, holding a two-game lead on both Warner Pacific and Corban University with six games remaining in the regular season. For the sixth time this season the Beacons held their opponent to under 30% shooting as Walla Walla went 17-for-57 in the game (29.8%).

The Beacons had four players in double-figures, led by Sami Pitts(pictured) with 14 points as the senior shot 4-for-5 from three-point range. Monique Thompson added 13 points, five assists and two steals while both Andrea Gloss and Jeni Hoffert each scored 11. MeShel Rad, taking advantage of just her third start of the season, scored six points and led all players with 12 rebounds including seven on the offensive end. Rad ranks third in the CCC in offensive boards.

Walla Walla (0-21, 0-14) was led by Grace Wallace, scoring 12 points with a pair of blocks. Lauren Pernu added 11 points and a team-high five rebounds.

Northwest Christian will return home next weekend for more Cascade Conference action, playing host to Evergreen on Friday and Northwest on Saturday. Both games will tip-off at 5:30 pm.
