LA GRANDE, Ore. - The most successful women's basketball season in the NAIA era came to a close on Friday night as the Beacons fell to top seed Eastern Oregon University, 58-52. Seniors
Hannah Frederick and
Melyssa Weber led the way for NCU in their final game.
Trailing by 12 points early in the second half, the Beacons clawed their way back to within three points late, but couldn't complete the comeback. The sixth-seeded Beacons (13-15) continued a string of strong defensive performances, forcing 21 EOU turnovers and holding the hosts to an 0-for-12 night shooting from three-point range. The offense, however, struggled to the tune of a 32% shooting effort.
NCU was led by Frederick, finishing her career with one more well-rounded effort. The point guard scored a team-high 14 points with six rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Weber scored 11 points and
Demarea Caples added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Eastern Oregon (26-5) was led by Madeline Laan, scoring 18 points. Airashay Rogers added 17 points. The Mounties advance to the CCC Championship game on Monday that will see them host No. 5 seed Oregon Tech who defeated No. 2 seed Southern Oregon on Friday, 77-74.
