Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – Warner Pacific senior Midfielder Mario Guizar scored two second-half goals and assisted on a third as the Knights came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat NCU on Friday afternoon, 3-1.
Things were looking good early for the Beacons who got a go-ahead goal from freshman
Victor Irechukwu (pictured) in the 12th minute. Irechukwu collected a deflected shot by
Chris Hendler and fired it home from seven yards out. It was his first goal of the season and propelled the Beacons to a one-goal lead at the intermission.
Â
WPC (9-6-1, 7-3-1 CCC) came out firing in the second half, getting off 12 shot attempts including nine shots-on-goal. Guizar broke through with the game-tying goal in the 67th minute off a pass from Joey Lutostanski.
Â
NCU settled down and just when it looked like the contest might be headed to overtime, the Knights put away the win. A Guizar feed to Jack Andrade in the 84th minute proved to be the game winner and then two minutes later Guizar added the accent, off another pass from Lutostanski for the 3-1 final score.
Â
When all was said and done, Warner Pacific held an 18-7 advantage in shot attempts, taking 13 shots-on-goal. As a result NCU keeper
John Castro posted ten saves, a career-high and the most for an NCU keeper since September of 2014.
Â
The Beacons (3-11-1, 2-8) will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon, traveling to La Grande to take on Eastern Oregon University at 3:00 pm.Â
