KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Senior
Hannah Frederick tied a season-high with 18 points on Friday night, leading Northwest Christian to a 66-59 win at Oregon Tech. It was just the second win ever for NCU in Klamath Falls.
Â
While neither team had a particularly sharp night offensively, it was the Northwest Christian defense that provided the needed effort as they held the Lady Owls to just 27% shooting. The Beacons forced ten Tech turnovers over the first nine minutes of play and jumped out to an 18-4 lead to open the contest.
Â
NCU would end up leading wire-to-wire, despite a dangerous late comeback attempt. In the late stages of the game the Owls made it a one-possession contest, the last at 61-59 with under 30 seconds to go. The Beacons, however, nailed 5-of-6 free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the victory, improving their record at Danny Miles Court to 2-6 all-time.
Â
Northwest Christian (9-11, 5-7 CCC) had a strong all-around night from Frederick, scoring her 18 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Melyssa Weber flirted with a double-double before ending her evening with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Demarea Caples added ten points in the victory.
Â
NCU shot 32.3% in the game. The Beacons went 6-for-22 from three-point range in the first half and never took an outside attempt over the final 20 minutes. Northwest Christian produced their fourth 50-rebound game of the season, out-boarding the home team, 52-39.

Head Coach
Heath Alexander said, "It was a great team effort tonight. We had great practices this week and you could tell that our preparation and focus on rebounding paid off. Hannah stepped up and made some huge free-throws for us down the stretch. We knew it would be a hostile environment with a great crowd. I told our kids just to enjoy the environment, compete hard and quiet the crowd, and we did just that."
Â
Oregon Tech (17-7, 6-6 CCC) was led by Karly LeVeque, scoring 16 points along with four of OIT's 13 steals. Rebekah Matteri added 11 points off the bench as the Owl reserves out-scored the Beacon bench, 18-16.
Â
The Beacons return to action on Saturday night, traveling to Ashland to take on Southern Oregon University at 5:30 p.m.
