Beacons Out-Scored, Not Out-Played

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.  – Despite outshooting Oregon Tech 20-16 in the game, the Northwest Christian University men's soccer team dropped their conference game to the Owls on Tuesday evening, 2-0. NCU doubled their previous season-high for shot attempts in the loss.

The Owls Jimmie Hernandez posted two quick strikes in the first 18 minutes of the game, giving OIT an early 2-0 lead, which they would not give up. In the 12th minute he scored off a corner kick from Colton Grytness and just six minutes later, took a cross from Ashton Betts to score from five-yards out.

Head Coach Brett Bentley said, "It was very disappointing tonight. We really dominated the game and took over after the first 20 minutes. They were chasing us and chasing us but unfortunately we couldn't find the back of the net to save our lives. We had a lot of scoring opportunities and a lot of good looks. We had extended periods of possession, where we were stringing together long passing sequences which is terrific to see. Hopefully the guys will see this as a sign of progress. It is very frustrating to play so well but lose the game within the first 12 minutes."

The Beacons (0-9, 0-5 CCC) were led by Sergio Maldonado (pictured) who took six shots including a pair of shots on goal. Isaiah Blake came off the bench to contribute four scoring attempts. NCU goalkeeper Max Torres made four saves during the game to help keep it close.

Oregon Tech (3-5, 2-2) keeper collected four saves in the net, picking up the shutout victory.

NCU will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Portland to take on Warner Pacific College at 12:00 pm.
