Beacons Top Tech For First CCC Win

EUGENE, Ore.  – It was a mirror opposite of Friday night for the NCU men's soccer team as they came back from a one-goal deficit to defeat Oregon Tech on Saturday, 4-1. NCU tied the game with less than ten minutes remaining in the first half and rallied to score three more in the second.

Ray Chavolla got the Owls off on a strong foot in the 29th minute, collecting a loose ball to go one-on-one with Erik Carrazco, in goal for NCU. Shooting left to right, Chavolla punched the ball in past the diving keeper.

Just seven minutes later the Beacons responded with the equalizer as Travis Brown took a combination pass from Taylor Hough (pictured) and Nathan Ruter and beat the OIT keeper for the score.

The second half was all NCU as the team out-shot the Owls 10-6, scoring three times. The game-winner came on a penalty kick in the 57th minute by Ryan Herriage. Hough followed that up with a pair of insurance scores.

In the 70th minute, Josh Bramlett sent a through ball from midfield to Ruter, who one-timed a pass to the wide open Hough on the left side. Then in the 87th minute, senior defender Lucas Cash created a turnover in the midfield and sent Hough on a long run with a perfectly timed service pass. Hough beat the final defender and fired in a 10-yard strike.

Northwest Christian (3-6-1, 1-4-1 CCC) grabs their first conference win of the season to equal their season total from a year ago. The Beacons finished with a 19-13 shot advantage, holding the Owls to three shots on goal. Carrazco made two saves as he picked up the victory.

Oregon Tech drops to 0-8-1 overall and 0-5 in the CCC with the loss.

The Beacons are back in action next Saturday as they travel to face Evergreen State at 2:00 pm.
