Beacons Close Out Season With 1-0 Loss

EUGENE, Ore. – A furious second-half comeback was all for naught on Wednesday night as the Northwest Christian men's soccer team couldn't compensate for an early Oregon Tech goal, dropping their season finale, 1-0.

The Owls struck early, as Logan Hurst hit Antonio Jaimes with a free kick in the box in the 12 minute. Jaimes headed in the goal, which 78 minutes later would become the game winner.

Oregon Tech continued to control the game throughout the first half, creating an 11-5 shot advantage. The Beacons, however, did not want to go quietly into the night in their final contest for 2008 and came out with guns blazing after the intermission.

The Beacons held the time-of-possession advantage over the final 45 minutes and outshot the Owls 15-6 in the period. They had seven shots-on-goal, but we unable to get any past freshman goalkeeper Travis Bille. Bille made ten saves in the game total, including a leaping save off a rocket strike from 25 yards out midway through the second half. The shot, off the foot of freshman Alex Crossingham was tipped by the keeper before bouncing off the crossbar with NCU's closest attempt on the night.

Junior Greg Erickson (pictured) led the Beacons with seven shots on the night while Crossingham finished with three shots on goal. Chris Senick came off the bench to offer four more shots, including a pair on goal. Northwest Christian finishes the season with a 3-12-1 mark overall. They end the season tied with Oregon Tech for fourth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Southern Division at 2-10. Neither team qualified for the playoffs.
