EUGENE, Ore. – The scoreless minutes streak for Northwest Christian University reached 432 minutes on Saturday as the Beacons was blanked by Cascade College, 5-0. NCU was held to just two shots on goal as the dropped their sixth straight game.
The Thunderbirds got on board with what eventually became the game-winner in the 19th minute as Chris Smerke collected the ball of a cross from Fernando Monteil and punched in the goal. The score moved to 2-0 in the 39th minute when Rolando Cruz forced a turnover from the defense and scored the unassisted netter.
Cascade added another goal before halftime when Monteil put a free kick from just outside the goalie box into the top shelf, a perfectly placed ball that keeper
Jared Frasier could do nothing about.
The T-Birds went on to add a pair of second half goals, both coming off of turnovers by the Beacon defense, brining the game to the 5-0 tally. Cascade totaled 14 shots in the contest, making good on five of seven shots on goal. Frasier made two saves for the Beacons in the game.
Northwest Christian (1-9-1, 0-7 CCC) is back in action on Tuesday night when they play host to Warner Pacific (8-4, 4-2), ranked #25 in the latest NAIA national coaches poll.
